PaedPallCare Link - RCH Palliative Care

What is PaedPallCareLink?

The basic premise of PaedPallCareLink project is that the provision of education to health professionals in general and nurses in particular, is of critical importance to improving the quality of palliative care provided to children.
The vision of the "PaedPallCareLink" is to create a system of ongoing education wherein key nurses are provided with;

  • Opportunities to update their skills and knowledge in paediatric palliative care through participation in annual study days,
  • Web-based Supports - for continual ongoing support. This will include information, fact sheets, presentations, case studies, journal club and interactive components,
  • Regular updates on developments in the field through a blog and an email network,
  • Links to colleagues in the field

These nurses would then be expected to take a leadership role in their services and wards. This will help in the identification of children with palliative care needs, referral to appropriate services and improved standards of care. It will also help to build important linkages between paediatrics and palliative care.
