Myths about palliative care

“Palliative care is end-of-life care”: Palliative care includes but is not limited to caring for children and families at the end of life.

“Palliative care is doing nothing”: Even when the underlying condition can not be cured, sophisticated medical technology can be used to control symptoms and improve a child’s quality of life. Palliative care is a very active approach to symptom management and family support.

“Palliative care starts when curative treatment stops”: Elements of palliative care and curative treatment can be combined. See “Transition”.
