Quality & Patient Safety

Regular orientation sessions are provided for new staff induction, junior medical staff orientantion and nursing groups. In addition, education is available for departments and units around the following topics:

  • Quality in Healthcare
  • Clinical Risk Management
  • Open Disclosure
  • Incident management/Riskman training

Education on other relevant topics can also be provided by the Quality Unit - contact your Quality Manager or the Quality Unit for details or to request a particular topic.

Accreditation

The Quality Unit is able to provide sessions for managers and staff including:

  • Preparation for accreditation
  • Writing an Outcome Statement
  • What is evidence?

Facilitation is being offered to clinical units to assist with quality planning for 2011. Contact your Quality Manager

Clinical Practice Review

The Clinical Practice Review is held in the Vernon Collins Lecture Theatre from 12:30pm on the first Tuesday of each month except January. Proposed topics for the Clinical Practice Review for 2011 include:

  • Reducing harm to our patients
  • "From standoff to synergy"- Working through complex clinical scenarios with families "Feeling the PINCH" - The five most hazardous medications for patient safety
  • Patient and Family Centred Care - we know why but how are we doing?
  • Open Disclosure - Quality unit and Medicolegal team
  • Management of the Deteriorating Patient  - MET at RCH, Between the flags
