Overview

Physiotherapists at the Royal Children's Hospital have a strong commitment to teaching and supporting our colleagues in both the metropolitan and rural community through education and training. The Physiotherapy Department is also committed to the education and training of undergraduate and post graduate physiotherapy students and RCH staff

Physiotherapy Students

The Department of Physiotherapy is a Specialist Clinical School of the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, School of Physiotherapy. See http://www.physioth.unimelb.edu.au/ for more information.

The Department currently accepts final year physiotherapy students from the University of MelbourneLatrobe University and Monash University. Requests from interstate and international students are considered individually.

Clinical placements are provided for Postgraduate students studying a Masters of Physiotherapy (by Coursework) (Paediatrics), Postgraduate Certificate in Physiotherapy (Paediatrics), Clinical short courses and postgraduate diploma students.

Paediatric Training Program

The Paediatric Training Program (PTP) is a 2 year post graduate program established by The Royal Children's Hospital. 

The program involves rotations through a broad range of paediatric services including:

  • Neurosciences
  • Developmental Medicine
  • Burns/Haematology/Oncology
  • Orthopaedics
  • PICU/Cardiac
  • Respiratory medicine
  • Western Health (Sunshine Hospital)
  • Late shift cover

PTP staff receive supervision, guidance and feedback from senior staff during each of these rotations. To complement the clinical learning during these rotations, therapists undertaking the program receive fortnightly tutorials which are facilitated by senior staff within the department.
