Paediatric Pharmacopoeia
First produced in 1917 and now in its 13th edition, the Paediatric Pharmacopoeia advises prescribers, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals on doses for paediatric patients. The book also contains information on drug administration, compatability and availability, with additional notes to guide the carer to optimal paediatric drug administration.
The Paediatric Pharmacopoeia is compiled and edited by pharmacists from the Pharmacy Department, following extensive literature consultation and paediatric specialist review. The Pharmacy Board of Victoria lists the reference as a mandatory text that all registered pharmacies within Victoria must hold. In most other states in Australia, it is listed as a recommended text.
Although due for an update, the 13th Edition (2002) is the most current version available, and there are no plans at this stage for RCH to produce a 14th edition. The reason for this is that the government has recently put out a 'expressions of interest' for a tender to produce a new national paediatric publication. We estimate that it would take the successful tender applicant around 18 months to produce a new publication, and this could be as late as 2012. Any further developments will be posted on the RCH pharmacy website, and we will continue to publish any errata information that should arise in the errata section of this page.
