helicoptor-noseWelcome to the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Trauma Service home page. The RCH Trauma Service was established in 1999 in response to a ministerial report (RoTES report) which also designated the RCH as the Paediatric Major Trauma Service (MTS) for Victoria. 

As the Paediatric Major Trauma Service the RCH provides emergency treatment and ongoing care for the majority of Victoria's most severely injured children (15 years & 364 days = U16) as well as taking a leadership role in trauma prevention, education and research.   

The role and function of the RCH Trauma Service primarily involves:

  • Trauma clinical quality activities - internal and external
  • Implementation of recommendations of RoTES report
  • Ensuring the RCH meets MTS criteria
  • Development and implementation of paediatric trauma guidelines and protocols
  • Data collection, evaluation and dissemination
  • Research
  • Education - internal and external
