This site is to help clinicians make decisions about the most appropriate Non Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) options for their patient.
The majority of NEPT is relating to patients being transferred to another hospital for treatment or appointment, to a hospital closer to their home or in some cases to the patient’s home. Depending on the reason for transport there are different people responsible for payment of transport. Please refer to the RCH NEPT Hospital procedure and DHS Guidelines on responsibility for payment of ambulance fees for more information
For emergency patient transport please refer to the PETS web site.
For complex patients please discuss with the ward’s Care Manager or Associate Unit Manager.
When organising NEPT (where appropriate) check if the family has their own transport available and/or if they are eligible for any government reimbursement.
To assist the you with deciding the patients appropriate transport needs we have developed an NEPT Advisor.
The range of transport outcomes can be previewed on the NEPT Advice audit tool.
