Find a family doctor
The Royal Children's Hospital encourages all patients to have a regular family doctor (also known as a GP, or General Practitioner) that they feel comfortable with.
When presenting your child to the hospital, please ensure your GP details are up to date. If no GP is listed or the details are wrong, then the right GP will not be able to receive a copy of your child's discharge summary.
See the RCH Find a GP factsheet for tips on finding and choosing a GP.
Choosing a GP
Parents can ask for recommendations for a GP from their:
- Friends, relatives or other parents at their child's kinder or school.
- Maternal and Child Health Nurse (MCHN).
- Local Community Centre.
- Online.

- Use the 'Find a health service' section on the Better Health Channel to find a GP, paediatrician and many other healthcare professionals.
