The RCH Parent Information website has general information to help families find their way around the hospital and family related hospital facilities.

Getting to the RCH

  • The Royal Children's Hospital is on the corner of Flemington Road and Gatehouse Street in Parkville. 
  • Melway Map 2A, J5 or Map 43 E3.
  • Hospital parking can be difficult and costs around $19 for 4 hours or more. 
  • The number 55 and 59 trams stop at the front entrance of the hospital. Public transport timetables can be accessed from the Yarra Trams website.

Getting around the RCH

As the hospital is a huge place, navigation is encouraged via lift colours.  Staff may advise you to take a certain coloured lift to your destination: 

  • Front Entry Building - Silver Lifts
  • Main Building (to clinics)  - Orange lifts
  • Main Building (to wards)  - Blue Lifts
  • Northwest Building - Pink lifts
  • South East Building - Green Lifts

Aboriginal Family Support Unit

The Aboriginal Family Support Unit is a place where you can come for a yarn, a cuppa or just to sit in the Family Room.  It is a friendly place where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People are welcome.  Staff of the Aboriginal Family Support Unit are committed to providing any support possible in assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families attend outpatient clinics, emergency or families who have a sick child in hospital.

Consumer liaison

Any families of the RCH can contact the RCH Consumer Liaison Officer if they have any concerns or need some assistance in any way.

Interpreter services

Interpreters are located near the Front Enquiry Desk on the ground floor. Interpreter services cost nothing but should be booked in advance.
