Medical workforce unit - junior medical staff
International Medical Graduates (IMGs) - welcome info

Join the paediatric team at RCH in 2014!

Paediatric training in Victoria is organised by The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) and Monash Medical Centre (MMC).

Positions for paediatric training programs are usually for 12 months, starting in February.

Appointments for junior resident medical officer (JRMO), senior resident medical officer (SRMO) and registrar positions are made on a competitive basis. These positions usually consist of rotations through different units. Once appointed, JRMO and SRMOs can list preferences for possible rotations. A roster is then allocated, based on candidates' preferences.

Appointments for senior registrar and fellow may be for 6 or 12 months, and are usually made by arrangement with individual departments.

    Training is always under review.

Further information regarding positions for 2014 will be available from Friday 24th May 2013.

Medical workforce unit - junior medical staff

This unit co-ordinates the appointment, support and education of junior doctors at RCH, working together with individual clinical departments and the Medical Education Officer and the Chief Resident Medical Officer and Deputies.

Junior doctors include Junior Residents (JRMOs), Senior Residents (SRMOs), Registrars and Fellows on site at RCH, and residents and registrars elsewhere who are in the Victorian paediatric training program.

The Medical Workforce Unit - Junior Medical Staff is directly responsible for the appointment of Paediatric Trainees (around 50 JRMOs, 38 SRMOs and 70 Registrars).  The unit also has responsibility for the support and working conditions for all other junior doctors: around 155 departmentally-based Registrars and Residents, and 165 Fellows, Visiting Trainees and Observers.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs) - welcome info

We have a small team who work on a project to ensure our IMGs, otherwise known as overseas doctors, are supported (prior to arriving, on arrival and during their time here at RCH) as well ensuring their educational and professional development needs and goals are met whilst they are here.
