This CD features original recordings from leading Australian classical musicians Paul Williams, Margaret Dickson and Sue Goessling of Trio Grande. John Rowland of Rowland Productions generously recorded it for the hospital. The works have been specially selected to create complete calm.
TRIO GRANDE is a versatile and polished Melbourne group best known for their 'Classics with a Smile' series as well as their 'Classic Cabaret'. Working as The Elastic Band, they have also had a long association with children's entertainment and childhood causes.
Paul Williams was Associate Principal bassoonist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for 23 years and holds the Licentiate Diploma of Trinity College on five instruments. Paul has arranged the music for this HUSH CD to help children's hospitals throughout Australia.
Margaret Dickson, violin, has studied in Germany. She is a former member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the State Orchestra of Victoria, as well as many prestigious chamber music groups. She and Paul currently play with the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Sue Goessling is heard here on piano, including two solo tracks. Sue brings a wealth of musical experience from the worlds of opera, operetta, choir and chamber music. She is a leading Melbourne accompanist and musical director.
Adelaide Isla Williams, singer and dancer, appears regularly with both Trio Grande and The Elastic Band. She also works with contemporary ensembles fusing old and new art forms.
John Rowland
John began his recording career in the 1960s, prior to electronic keyboards and synthesizers, and so grew up mixing 'organic' music including orchestras.
He has worked in all facets of sound including radio, television, film and location recording, but his first love is recording 'real' instruments in a 'real' space.
During John's time in London he created The Barge, a studio actually built on a barge, in London's Little Venice.
This was later acquired by Virgin and John continued to run it under the new ownership for a further eight years. John has recorded in many of London's studios (including The Manor, The Townhouse, PRT, Studio G and Abbey Road).
Now back in Australia he and his wife Barbara, head up 'Rowlands' one of Melbourne's mainstream studios.

The "Hush Collection" is special in that it is a 'grass roots' recording. To me it symbolises the craft of 'real' recording. Take away the controlled environment of a studio, the synthesized acoustics and digital processing and you are left with just musicians and a performance. Don't get me wrong, I love studios, My part is the invisible bit. I am so in awe of our musicians, Paul Williams, Margaret Dickson and Sue Goessling who, apart from being a delight to work with are exquisite artists and perform the works so effortlessly. And thank you especially to Dr. Cathy Crock who has made this series happen. As if it isn't enough to bring these exquisite pieces to a new audience, the help and relief of suffering to so many children is really the point of this recording, and she's done it. Thank you too for taking the trouble to purchase and enjoy this recording and for the opportunity for such wonderful melodies to live on. John Rowland. Rowland Productions |
