About gait analysis

Clinical Gait Analysis

Gait analysis gives us information about exactly how people walk. If people have difficulty walking, then this information can be used to plan various types of treatment aimed at improving walking ability. If this is achieved then other abilities, such as standing or running, may also be improved.
Gait Analysis will therefore only be useful if it helps in planning treatment. The aim of this part of the web-site is to give an overview of how the information we get from gait analysis is used in that planning. We hope that by giving children and their parents a better understanding of the overall process they will be able to become more fully involved in making decisions.

Most children who visit the Gait Laboratory have Cerebral Palsy and this is covered in most detail. Spina Bifida and other conditions are also outlined briefly.

You can also find four case studies here showing how gait analysis information has been used in planning the management of four different children.
