Lalor West Primary School

Lalor West Primary School has a population of approximately 320 students, with a diverse range of multicultural backgrounds. Students at Lalor West are pleased to be participating in the 2001 Festival For Healthy Living and have forged well together as a group, to create our performance pieces. Many special programs are implemented throughout the school year, some of which include: Junior School Council, Performing Arts, Sports, Camps, Grade 2 sleepover and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) for prep children.

Stronger Grade 5/6 students

Fun, loud, energetic and hardworking.

Thankyou for leaping into new territory, being willing to explore all sorts of ways of making theatre and expressing and revealing yourselves honestly. We have explored emotions, things that stress you and ways of coping with stresses and we have done thorough acting dancing, chanting, creating physical images and metaphors and generally making a lot of. Noise. I have enjoyed seeing individual skills and talents being discovered or strengthened and confidence and cooperative work grow. I have loved seeing peoples ability to remember things get better each and every week!

I'd like to give a huge thanks to Melissa Cox who has been there doing what the very best of teachers do - being there, doing it tirelessly committed and endlessly supportive. Artist in Residence - Hillary Elliot.

We are concerned about the types of food kids are consuming - chips, chocolate, lollies, deep fried junk. At LWPS there has been a huge push to get kids eating more natural, less - processed, healthier foods.

  • Many teachers hold daily class totals of fruit and vegetables being consumed by students and reward healthy eating.
  • School water bottles have been introduced and students are encouraged to sip and refill frequently. The school canteen has been completely overhauled.
  • Many high- fat and high sugar items have been scrapped for more nutritious, culturally sensitive alternatives, such as fried rice, mountain breads, dips, corn, hardboiled eggs, rice crackers and fruit.
  • In celebration of our healthy eating LWPS joined other schools in the VHETTA Healthy fruit and Veg just eat it week. The week culminated in a character visit where students were presented with fresh fruit donated by local farmers.
