Family Advisory Council

About the Family Advisory Council

Young people heal best when their families are part of the care team. But how do we ensure that families really do feel included and involved when a child becomes a patient of the Royal Children's Hospital?

The Royal Children's Hospital has committed to an approach that is being embraced in paediatric facilities around the world. It is known as Patient and Family Centred Care. The key principles of Patient and Family Centred Care are:

  • Dignity and Respect
  • Information Sharing
  • Participation
  • Collaboration

To get these principles operating across the hospital, a Family Advisory Council has been established with twenty family members, five staff, and one member of the hospital Executive. The Family Advisory Council is a busy and enthusiastic team working in a collaborative partnership with the hospital, to turn these principles into practice.
