ISDN Call Costs & Quality

Call costs for ISDN are determined by the distance, duration, and quality of the call. The quality of the call is controlled by the data rate, of which there are three options:

Low quality 128 kbps (1 line)

Useful for meetings where picture quality is not critical. Often used for long international calls to keep costs down. Suitable for text only PowerPoint presentations.

Medium quality 256 kbps (2 lines)

Recommended for most conference applications within Australia. Suitable for image/text PowerPoint.

High quality 384 kbps (3 lines)

A preferred option for patient consultations and the transmission of detailed images e.g. radiology images, ultrasounds.

*Note: Higher data rates (image quality) can be achieved by connecting via IP.

Calls from one Australian capital city to another typically cost around:

  • $15p/hr low quality
  • $30p/hr medium quality
  • $60p/hr high quality
