Going Nuts with Macadamia

"Going Nuts with Macadamia" is a one hour, interactive television show starring the patients of the Royal Children's Hospital. Unique in Australia, it is hosted by ’Skates’ and a cheeky puppet called 'Macadamia'.

"Going Nuts" offers a welcome break from the boredom of a hospital stay, providing an effective means of educating children about hospital processes and clinical procedures in a non-threatening and entertaining way. The format of the show incorporates pre-taped educational segments and live interaction with patients, families and staff.

Regular segments include ward visits, patient interviews, music therapy sessions, hand washing tips, science facts and phone talkback with patients in the wards. The show gives information on topics such as: what to expect when you have an x-ray; how to cope with finger pricks; and what it's like to have a plaster cast put on.

The show is produced in the ERC television studio and cable-cast live to the hospital TV channel every Wednesday at 2.00pm. It's replayed three times daily at 8.00am, 10.30am and 5.30pm.

If you are a patient in the hospital you may see the Going Nuts video team filming on your ward on a Tuesday morning. You might also be asked if you'd like to come down to the studio to "star" with Macadamia. The show also promotes events around the hospital so if there is something exciting happening in your area give us a call on extension 6299.
