About the Centre for International Child Health

The Centre for International Child Health (CICH) was established in 2001 within the University of Melbourne's Department of Paediatrics at the Royal Children's Hospital. CICH is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research & Training in Child & Neonatal Health.

Aims and strategies

CICH's core aims are to address the inequity in global child mortality, to assist countries to achieve their Millennium Development Goals in child health, and to develop strong child health systems. To do this we focus on the following approaches:

• Implementing global and local strategies for improving the quality of paediatric care
• Supporting effective policies for child health and survival at national level, particularly the adaptation and implementation of the WHO / UNICEF Child Survival Strategy
• Clinical, epidemiological and operational research. The areas of the research are issues that are central to reducing child mortality
• Developing evidence-based resources that can assist health-workers operating in developing country health facilities

• Strengthening local child health institutions in the region, and supporting clinical, research and leadership capacity among paediatricians and other child health professionals
