About CICH

The Centre for International Child Health was established in 2001 within the University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

CICH’s core aims are to address the inequity in global child mortality, to assist countries to achieve their Millennium Development Goals in child health, and to develop strong child health systems.  To do this we focus on the following approaches:

  • Implementing global and local strategies for improving the quality of paediatric care
  • Supporting effective policies for child health and survival at national level, particularly the adaptation of the WHO / UNICEF Child Survival Strategy
  • Clinical, epidemiological and operational research.  The areas of the research are issues that are central to reducing child mortality;

Aims

To employ field and laboratory research to improve the health of children living in poor circumstances.

Objectives

  • Mobilise research to make advances in disease prevention and case-management
  • Collaborate with local and regional partners to build local capacity and to improve health systems
  • Develop evidence-based resources that can assist health-workers operating in developing country health facilities
