Epilepsy Surgery

Epilepsy is sometimes caused by a localised area of abnormal brain. This abnormal area may become the focus of seizures. If surgery can remove this focus for seizures, then seizures may often be stopped or reduced.
Advances in diagnostic testing (such as video EEG monitoring, MRI, SPECT and PET scanning) and surgical techniques have made epilepsy surgery a widely used treatment in many centres.
