AMHS Foundation Training: 'An Introduction to Eating Disorders for Mental Health Professionals.'

This module provides a comprehensive introduction to eating disorders for mental health clinicians. It will build confidence and skills in the identification and assessment of eating disorders and assumes no earlier training in the field. At the completion of training participants will have:

  • Increased understanding of eating disorder diagnosis and diagnostic issues, epidemiology and causal factors
  • Increased abiltity to undertake a comprehensive assessment of eating disorders
  • Increased familiarity with commonly used assessment tools, eating disorder formulation, best practice recommendations and
    Increased understanding of case management in eating disorders

target audience: all mental health service professionals whose services are part of the NEVIL Cluster

Understanding and Assessing Eating Disorders in Children and Adolescents

This is a foundation level course to build skills and confidence in the comprehensive assessment and treatment planning for children and adolescents with eating disorders.

Topics covered include:  

  • Understanding of eating disorders diagnosis and diagnostic issues, epidemiology and causal factors, and theories.
  • Undertaking comprehensive assessment of eating disorders.
  • Commonly used assessment tools, eating disorder formulation.
  • How assessment informs treatment planning
  • The lived experience of eating disorders, and the challenges in treatment and recovery for people experiencing eating disorders.

target audience: CAMHS clinicians who have minimal experience of working with young people with eating disorders or those wishing to refresh their knowledge of and skill in assessing eating disorders.
