The ADHD Assessment Clinic provides a multidisciplinary assessment of children aged 4 to 8 years with ADHD. The children will undergo paediatric, psychology, and special education assessment, as well as a school visit.
Assessment takes place over a half day, and a detailed report with management strategies is sent to the family and other professionals on request.
The program also trains clinicians from a number of disciplines in the assessment and management of children with ADHD.
The program may also contribute to ongoing research aimed at improving outcomes for children with ADHD. Parents may be invited to participate in one of these studies, but are not obliged to participate.
Clinic staff include consultant paediatricians, clinical psychologist, special educator, ADHD clinic coordinator, senior paediatric trainees, clinic coordinators. There may be teaching and research activities in the clinic.
A GP or specialist referral is required for the clinic.
| Step 1 |
Prior to the day of assessment, the family completes a set of questionnaires about the child's past and present health, learning and behaviour. |
| Step 2 | The assessment at the clinic covers the child's level of functioning in the following areas: 1. Developmental history 2. Cognitive capacity 3. Academic performance 4. Attentional abilities 5. Emotional wellbeing 6. Physical health |
| Step 3 | A "case conference" takes place with the paediatrician, psychologist, and special education teacher to discuss the results of the assessment and make recommendations according to the needs of the child. |
| Step 4 | The paediatric doctor discusses the findings and recommendations of the team with parents. |
| Step 5 | Parents and other professionals receive a detailed report of the assessment and recommended management strategies. |
The cost of the program is $250. Payment is required in advance. The patient is also bulk billed for the medical consultation.
