Clinic staff include consultant paediatricians, clinical psychologist, special educator, occupational therapist, senior paediatric trainees and clinic coordinators. There may be teaching and research activities in the clinic.
A GP or specialist referral is required.
| Step 1 |
Prior to the day of assessment, the family completes a questionnaire about the child’s past and present health, learning and behaviour. |
| Step 2 |
The assessment at the hospital covers the child’s level of functioning in the following areas:
1. Academic abilities 2. Developmental profile 3. Cognitive functioning 4. Emotional wellbeing 5. Physical health

| Step 3 | A “case conference” takes place with the paediatrician, special educator, psychologist, occupational therapist & the child’s teacher to discuss the results of the assessment and make recommendations according to the needs of the child. |
| Step 4 | The paediatric doctor discusses the findings and recommendations of the team with the parents. |
| Step 5 | Parents and the school receive a detailed report of the assessment and recommended management strategies. |
The cost of the program is $270. This covers the contribution of the specialist educator and the psychologist. The patient is also bulk billed for the medical consultation.
