Data, measurement and evaluation

  • The Centre for Community Child Health offers expertise in data, measurement and evaluation to assist initiatives that are seeking to improve outcomes for children and families and require support to locate, analyse and understand available data sources, to set up shared measurement systems and to evaluate design and delivery outcomes. Our program evaluation and outcomes measurement model is built upon a participatory and capacity-building approach, involving stakeholders in all aspects of evaluation activity. Our expertise includes the following:

    • Establishing frameworks and logic models to measure progress and impact. We support stakeholders to consider research evidence and professional/family wisdom and values to ensure program development activities are theoretically capable of achieving desired objectives, aligned to the community.
    • Developing rigorous (but pragmatic) indicators.
    • Identifying and using existing data sets and data sources, and translating this for use. We support stakeholders to source, gather and interpret primary and secondary data to help them understand and reflect on needs and identify priorities.
    • Qualitative and quantitative data collection methods and storage.
    • Developmental evaluation: assisting services to develop initiatives in complex or uncertain environments.
    • Developing shared measurement systems.
    • Using and embedding learning systems to inform program development and to improve outcomes. We encourage the use of rapid-cycle feedback to capture incremental change and improvement and to guide future action.
    • User driven reporting – including infographics, dashboards and slide decks.

We offer a variety of methods to support community initiatives. These include:

    • facilitating meetings
    • delivering tailored presentations
    • delivering training and workshops
    • developing frameworks to guide and/or measure the initiative
    • developing and delivering surveys, focus groups and interviews
    • analysis of secondary data
    • evidence scans
    • advice, mentoring and coaching
    • report writing.

We also offer expertise in system and service design for initiatives seeking to improve outcomes for children and families.
