Approximately 700 heart operations are performed annually, for treatment of both simple and complex congenital heart defects.
The RCH Cardiac Surgical Unit offers a competitively priced package for non-Australian residents. The current fixed price includes all pre-operative assessment, surgery and post-operative care related to the heart surgery. Airport transfers and local accommodations for 2 adults and the patient are organised in advance and included in the package price.
Our serviced apartments are fully furnished, including cooking facilities, and are within walking distance to the hospital.
On arrival at Melbourne International Airport our duty terminal manager will meet families and assist them with immigration and customs clearance and a limousine will then transfer the families to our local accommodation.
An authorised interpreter is available for families that do not speak English. Interpreter service is provided within the hospital and via the telephone. Australia is a multi-cultural country and many of our staff members are multilingual and represent a diverse ethnic background.
Ms Swee Kum Ho, Cardiac Unit International Patient Co-ordinator will assist patients and families with admission procedures, pre and post-operative assessment and education, co-ordination and liaison after discharge from the hospital until returning to their home countries.
Prior to providing medical treatment at The Royal Children's Hospital, the hospital will assist families with securing visa approval from the Department of Human Services, Victoria. A letter stating that your child has been accepted for treatment in Melbourne will be faxed to you to assist with the appropriate visa application forms.
