The Adolescent Unit on Ward 3 East at the Royal Children's Hospital has 22 beds that cater for young people aged 12-18 years. The only criteria for admission to the Adolescent Unit is a young person's age. All medical, surgical and medical specialty needs are catered for. The Adolescent Unit provides an environment that promotes adolescent development through its Multidisciplinary Health Care Team and links to the RCH Education Foundation and Creative Expression programs.
Dr John Court was instrumental in establishing the Adolescent Unit in 1984. It was the first adolescent inpatient facility to be established in an Australian Children's Hospital.
