About RCH Burns Unit

  • The Royal Children's Hospital Burns Service is a multi-disciplinary team. This team of health professionals includes staff from:

    • Surgery
    • Nursing
    • Physiotherapy
    • Orthotics
    • Nutritional Services
    • Occupational Therapy
    • Education Department
    • Play Therapy
    • Social Work
    • Mental Health

    The team meets each week to discuss issues relating to all aspects of the patient's care.

    Burns patients are cared for in Platypus and Possum Wards, but a number of other units are also involved in their management, including the Operating Theatre, Emergency Department and Specialist Clinics.

    The burns unit provides ongoing support to families through supporting the Burn Survivors Network.
