Every child deserves the best start in life.
The Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) measures how our young children are developing in each Australian community.

The AEDI results provide each community with a picture of the strengths and vulnerabilities in young children for each of the five developmental areas. This information helps communities and governments improve their services and resources to give children the best possible start in life.

The Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has committed $15.9 million for the national roll-out of the AEDI.

The AEDI is conducted by the Centre for Community Child Health (at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne and a key research centre of the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute) in partnership with the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, Perth. [AEDI Who's who...]
