Violence Prevention Program

The Adolescent Forensic Health Service Violence Prevention Program offers offence-specific intervention for young men and women, aged 10-21 years, whose offences are of a violent nature.  Both the Be Real About ViolencE (BRAVE) Program for young men and the Relationships And ViolencE (RAVE) Program for young women aim to challenge violence-supportive attitudes and beliefs and provide an opportunity for young people to practice pro-social behaviours.

The objectives of the Violence Prevention Program are to:

  • Increase motivation to work towards a future free of violence
  • Increase participant awareness of, and responsibility for, their violent behaviours
  • Help participants understand the link between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • Challenge beliefs and attitudes that are supportive of violent behaviour
  • Teach participants strategies to effectively manage anger and violence through group activities, role plays and discussion

BRAVE is a 15 session group work program made up of one and half hour modules. RAVE is also delivered in a group based setting but over 17 one and half hour sessions.

Young people are referred to the BRAVE and RAVE programs through the Youth Justice System. While both the BRAVE and RAVE Programs are not currently mandated, the young men who are on community-based Youth Justice Orders may have a special condition on their order requiring that they participate in the BRAVE Program.
