Our services

The Adolescent Forensic Health Service (AFHS) is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals that includes nurses, medical officers, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, dual diagnosis clinicians, health promoters, criminologists and occupational therapists. 

AFHS provide primary health care, mental health care, offence specific programs, health promotion programs, alcohol and other drug treatment, dual diagnostic care, clinical counselling and group based interventions to young who access the service.

Service Description
Primary Health Upon admission to a custodial centre a young person will receive a comprehensive medical assessment by an Adolescent Forensic Health Service nurse and a doctor.

Forensic Mental Health

A team of clinicians provide specialist adolescent forensic assessment and clinical counselling services.
Unit Health Program Health Care Co-coordinators ensure young people in custody have access to quality health care and health education.
Health Promotion We aim to improve young people's health and wellbeing and reduce health-related risk behaviours through a range of health promotion initiatives and education.
Be Real About ViolencE (BRAVE)
BRAVE provides an offence-specific intervention for young men whose offences are of a violent nature.
Male Adolescent Program for Positive Sexuality (MAPPS) MAPPS provides services to young people aged 10-21 years who have been found guilty a sexual offence.
Referrals Referrals are routinely made to outpatient specialist services and primary health providers, drug and alcohol agencies, mental health providers and generic counselling services.
Reports Reports may be requested by the courts, legal practioners, parole boards or ombudsmen. AFHS are also an accredited drug and alcohol assessment agency.
Secondary Consultation Secondary consultation & education is provided to Youth Justice staff, external agencies and other teams within the AFHS regarding client management issues.
